My, what big teeth…

(Ann Sofie Back Tokyo retrospective)
Even with some very Vanessa Beecroft-esque art direction, outfits that consist of flesh-coloured stockings and a bra, minimal but slightly wonky pieces, there is a nice, androgynous tone to Ann Sofie Back that I like.

Plus this awesomely ordinary, minimal and amazing top has driven me wild. Boring to some perhaps but I love this stuff. Ah, the lovely and graphical gentle curve of the zipper -this is something I could see myself growing old with. The hairy tits top, perhaps less so.
Got to get it on

(Gocco print by Loosetooth)
A dear friend recently returned from a stint in Tokyo with a most precious gift, something I had wanted for ages: a Print Gocco. Now instead of spending dull hours printing some gnome holiday cards at the printers, I can now create to my heart’s delight in the comfort of my own home. Although last year’s gnomes had watercolour painted hats, this year’s run will be all handmade love.
I’m reading up on the tips and techniques and I must say I am a little scared of the device. I nearly want to tuck it away under the bed until I am ready to deal with the immense possibility and power of this wee contraption. Matt offered to babysit Gocco for me until I stopped being a scaredycat, but I think I have to seize the opportunity and print, dammit, print!

(Tretorn skerry boots)
So they’re not the most elegant boots ever, but their ugliness carries a certain charm. The charm of playful praticality, and I love them for it. With all the grey rainy days, it is a pleasure to clomp around outside in these. I have even been purposefully stepping into puddles and have even reverted to such childlike behaviour as kicking up splashes of water (but not at people of course). When has a pair of shoes last ellicited such sheer glee?
I realize I’ve treated my shoes with kid gloves for too long. Shoes are meant to be worn, and worn in. Until recently I kept my Cydwoq saddle boots on a pedestal but finally I got over the ridiculour fear of ruining them and broke them in, and furthermore can’t wait for them to get worn and a bit dirty.
What often attracts me to a person’s style of dress is less the item but how they have turned an item into a staple all their own, how the piece has been shaped to their character over time and with commitment. Let us not fear puddles or rain or wear, for these trials will only build character. But if you do fear poor weather, get some sweet rubber boots to enjoy it in.

If it’s gonna be done

(from seven)
I like sweater dresses, but not as a trend. Nowhere is it mentioned that this knit dress is a good idea in theory (ie while standing up) but the minute you sit down for a period longer than a moment, the knit -and thus one’s ass- becomes misshapen. The sweater dress how-to guides have been posted hither and thither and do heed some advice on length, fibres, etc, but mark my words that they do not translate well if sitting in lectures all day or at the desk -plus which most of them will probably start to pill around said area…ew.
Regardless of the trend, this Jeremy Scott dress is darling and right up my alley. I would just be sure to wear it on an day walking around or a night standing around (just not sitting or else perhaps some strategically placed cartoony eyes might just get bigger).

The morning’s work. I must say, I love silkscreening. A bit slow on the setup, but once everything was ready, it went swimmingly (many thanks to my studio assistant).
Soon to be available in t-shirt form.

Street fashion blogs aren’t doing for me what they used to; but when seen through the eyes and art of a talented illustrator, voilà! something amazing and new.
Cripes!
November 2, 2006

Want to high waist it? If yes, these babies are 40% off at Oak - though perhaps I should’ve made my purchase before broadcasting that fact.
Honestly, I’ve been wavering back and forth since my return from NYC on whether or not to give into Cheap Mondays. I had tried some on at Opening Ceremony (along with a barrage of other people in for the CMs, and I’m sure the shoppeople were tired of hearing those words being uttered), but I’m not super into skin tight denim and much less so for men. Going a couple sizes up provided a nice but unobtrusive slimness, and their skyscraper OD is a nice midrise. Hmm, two CMs for price of a single pair of Acnes -on sale no less.
The rise on jeans is the new hemline. The debate continues. Cripes.
